Douglas started his career in the insurance industry in 1990 and went on to found CIB in 1994. He has successfully led the evolution of CIB from a brokerage, to an administration hub for brokers, to an underwriting manager and ultimately a risk-carrying service provider. Douglas firmly believes in an approach of “how can we make this work for you”, which is naturally balanced by conservative underwriting. His entrepreneurial spirit has challenged a lot of perceived “established ways” and has built a brand that is known for service excellence.
Wilhelm von La Chevallerie
Wilhelm, a fellow of the actuarial society of South Africa, started his career at FJA in Munich (Germany) developing insurance software. In 2000 he joined Hollandia Re (now Hannover Re Africa) in Johannesburg. Wilhelm was seconded to Compass Insurance Company as Chief Underwriting Officer, managing a number of UMAs. Thereafter he joined EMB (an actuarial consulting firm) as a director of the South African office.
In 2010 Wilhelm joined CIB and in 2013 was appointed MD. His career has presented him with the unique understanding of the short-term market gained from a variety of angles.
His vision is to grow the brand of CIB by continuing to build on its unparalleled understanding of the broker market.
Chief Financial Officer
Steven joined CIB in 2006 as the financial manager and was since promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2013. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant – CA(SA) – having completed articles at Nolands Incorporated. His responsibilities stretch beyond the area of finance, including Information and Communications Technology.
Director of Sales and Marketing
JonJon started his career at M&F as a claims consultant, and over a 2 year period become a broker consultant on both personal and commercial business. He then moved to Guardian National as a Commercial Sales Manager and later joined Alexander Forbes Risk Services as Regional Sales Manager. Jonjon’s journey with CIB started in 2001 when he was employed as Commercial Sales Manager. Now part of CIB’s executive team, and as Director of Sales and Marketing, he manages broker distribution, new business nationally and marketing for the company.
His passion and wide range of sales experience gained over more than 25 years in the industry in a sales capacity unlocks an endless amount of doors for new business opportunities.
Head of Quality Assurance and Procurement
Vicki started her career at Standard Bank where she worked for six years before finding her way into the Insurance Industry. Vicki joined Hollard in 2001 as a personal lines underwriter. This position was short lived when she was asked to Head up the Claims Division for AA Insurance Services. She held various positions in this business until she went on maternity leave. On her return from maternity leave she joined the Forensic Team at Hollard. She continued to perform this role until joining CIB in December 2011.
Vicki currently heads up the Quality Assurance and Procurement divisions within CIB.
Quality Assurance assists management to evaluate and improve business processes in order to ensure and support continuous improvement for the achievement of the company’s objectives. Procurement secures trusted and efficient providers at the best quality and price.
Brian Mallinson CA(SA)
Independent non-executive director
Brian retired from KPMG in 2013, where he was a senior partner for many years. During his latter years with KPMG, Brian specialized in the rendering of professional services to short term and long term insurance companies, reinsurance companies and insurance brokers.
